Cancun is a tourist destination for its beautiful beaches, lively nightlife, and exciting outdoor adventures – accompanied by the warm weather it enjoys all year round. However, Cancun sometimes experiences rainfall, usually between May and October, which is Cancun’s wet season.

Wondering what to do in Cancun when it rains? Here is a shortlist of very nice things to do even when it rains.

1. Enjoy the cenotes

It’s raining and you’re going to get wet anyway if you don’t stay inside, so why not just enjoy the rain and the natural beauty of Cancun at the same time?

Cenotes are naturally formed swimming holes or sinkholes, and they are filled with clear, freshwater due to the filtering action of the earth. Some cenotes are located in a cave, while others are open. Most of them are gateways to underground waterways and hidden rivers, making them a perfect place for exploration. You can swim and dive in these swimming holes, and it’s safe as long as you stay on the surface.

Cave or cavern diving is only allowed if you are a certified open water diver and are accompanied by a certified “CAVE” guide. Diving in the cenotes is not only difficult but also dangerous, you will need someone who knows the caves very well.

There are tours in Cancun where you can visit four cenotes in one day and do other activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, and zip line.

2. Visit Xcaret

Xcaret Eco-Archaeological Park is a theme park in Cancun that offers you to see and discover the culture, history, and nature of Mexico at the same time! What is unique about this theme park is that it was built on its environment and archaeological ruins, which will certainly make you feel the history within its walls.

Xcaret, which is located in Riviera Maya, between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, offers various outdoor and indoor activities. If the rain doesn’t bother you, you can always go snorkeling and swimming in the Caribbean Sea, in the underground rivers, and even try swimming with dolphins and go sea trekking. If you prefer to stay dry, you can always visit Xcaret’s other attractions such as the aviary, the Hacienda Henequenera, the rotating panoramic tower, and the caves of the Mayan village.
